The members vary in ages from 15-17 and have been playing together (as Mariachi Chavez, of Cesar Chavez High School) for 4 years. These young musicians have played at local parties and political luncheons, and have also been featured on UNIVISION's "Al Despertar". And in March of 2010, had the honor and the privilege of playing for the world renowned Cirque Du Soleil. Mariachi Zacatecas was founded in 1963 by Abigail Yáñez, a native of Nochistlan, Zacatecas, Mexico. In time, the Mexican community in Northern California grew and Mariachi Zacatecas was established as the first and only mariachi group in the north of California. In 1978, founder Abigail Yáñez appointed his son, Rosario Yáñez, to be the director of the group. Since then, Mariachi Zacatecas has been a role-model for many of the newer mariachi groups in the region. Mariachi Zacatecas has had the honor of accompanying many famous artists such as Antonio Aguilar, Lola Beltran, Lucha Villa, Aida Cuevas, Linda Ronstandt, Yolanda Del Rio, Nydia Rojas, Gerardo Reyes, Rosenda Bernal, Chelo y Yesenia Flores, Graciela Beltran, Grupo Sparx and many more! Mariachi Zacatecas has also had the honor of performing for political figures such as the former Senator Robert F. Kennedy, and for the former Presidents of the United States, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Ronald Regan and George Bush.

El Mariachi Zacatecas fue fundado en el año 1963 en Sacramento, California por el Señor Abigail Yañez originario de Nochistlan, Zacatecas. En el año 1978 el Sr. Abigail Yañez, fundador del Mariachi Zacatecas, credio la direccion a su hijo Rosario Yañez. Desde entonces el Mariachi Zacatecas, ya con una fama establecida en el norte de California, ha sido el pilar para muchos de los mariachis e integrantes de mariachi que actualmente existen en la region. A pesar de su humilde formaccion, el Mariachi Zacatecas ha tenido el honor de acompañar a muchos artistas como Antonio Aguilar, Lola Beltran, Lucha Villa, Aida Cuevas, Linda Ronstandt, Yolanda Del Rio, Nydia Rojas, Gerardo Reyes, Chelo y Yesenia Flores, Graciela Beltran, Grupo Sparx y muchos mas!
